Last night, I attempted to do a “dragon lantern” quick sketch.
It turned out a bit more abstract than I expected, and since I’d gone in straight with a marker, it couldn’t really be salvaged.
I still felt like using a pen as it had been a while since I’d sketched without a pencil outline.
So the next one I tried was a quick “dragon billboard” sketch (using this great night time urban photo as a reference image, via Allen Boguslavsky on Pexels):

This was done with 3 Marvy Le Plume watercolor marker pens, a Vector app, and a Tombow pen (I think it was this one; and I can’t remember how I ended up with this pen).
I’ve had a few other city‑dragon sketch ideas floating around for a while.
One was a Western dragon visiting an Asian-esque city, and another was something structured around a neon light sign.
I’ll add them onto this post as they’re done.
By the way, does anyone here enjoy drawing with a pen straight as well?
I don’t always draw this way, but I love the speed and looseness of it. And the fact that you can’t erase mistakes makes it feel more exciting.
I took this art course on Domestika several years ago: Intro to Portrait Sketching: Draw in Real-Time, by Bill Robles (Courtroom Illustrator).
It was a great course.
I think visual skills are something to continuously work on. The long-time ones I’ve struggled with are perspective and figure drawing, so I hope to continue learning about those when things are a bit more settled (as I’m in the relocation planning phase right now).
