Thoughts on these Dragon Infographics

Some of the pages these dragon infographics were added onto were first written in the mid 2000’s.

I go back occasionally to update material. I try to add credible sources whenever possible and to update source links if many of the original sources are no longer online.

I have a few design books at home and have always enjoyed art and visual communication, even though it’s not the main focus of my job or career path.

Infographic Tips

While I like the idea of infographics, I had NO IDEA how to design them when I started thinking about it.

Selecting the content was one thing, and how to present it was another!

Here are a few things I thought through to keep things manageable.

1. Have a consistent design.

This is something I’ve struggled with over the years. Initially, I liked trying all sorts of different layouts and color schemes. This looks messy after a while.

2. Be consistent with fonts and color scheme.

Keeping point number one above in mind, it’s essential to understand font pairing and color selection.

3. Simple > Complex.

I felt that a complicated infographic would make the visual experience less fun for most visitors to Dragonsinn.net.

I felt like something simple that shared facts in a fun or educational manner would be best.

4. Use white space.

White space in the infographic helps give the text and content more breathing room, making it a less overwhelming experience for people viewing the image.

5. Keep sales and other CTAs out of the graphic.

I left out the Dragonsinn shop link and other reminders. It’s like choosing to remove Google ads from my site. It might work very well for some websites, but it felt more and more distracting over time.
