Introducing: Micro App #1

Introducing the first micro app in a small series on Dragonsinn. Based on a seed idea for daily positive affirmations.

Hi all,

I recently worked on a small project: the Daily Dragon Affirmations micro app.

You can try it out here!

Here are a few short reflections about how it came together.

What’s a Micro App?

A micro app is a lightweight, purpose-built application designed to perform a single, specific task. (Wikipedia)

In this case, it’s a tiny ritual tool and small interactive moment folded into Dragonsinn.

Reflection Notes

Long ago, I wanted to create some small and techy features for Dragonsinn.

I considered building a standalone phone app, but the time and maintenance involved would’ve been too much, so I set that idea aside.

Recently, I completed a short course where we practiced building a simple web app based on a birthday card message generator.

That exercise sparked the idea for something Dragonsinn‑approved.

Meaning and Purpose

The idea I submitted was based on daily positive affirmations.

I keep my news and online media intake fairly limited, because too much negative or sensational content tends to create a doomscrolling loop which isn’t the most constructive or pleasant state of mind to be in.

So the main idea was simply a line or two, generated randomly.

A tiny way to add a bit of brightness for visitors who wander into that corner of Dragonsinn.

Vibe

At some point, the idea shifted from “general affirmations” to featuring elemental dragon lords as the “voice” of the lines.

I’m not entirely sure where that came from. It was probably a mix of visual thoughts and general dragon energy.

The earth / air / fire / water structure felt like a natural fit, which draws loosely from astrological elemental foundations.

Future Apps

I might explore a dragon tarot micro app next 🎴

There’s also a dragon blessings micro app idea, which would be a slightly more humorous, light‑hearted companion to this first one ✨

This gives Dragonsinn a bit of a “3.0” feeling:

  • Dragonsinn 1.0 (1999–2018): early era
  • Dragonsinn 2.0 (2018–2026): mobile‑friendly, adapting to the social media landscape
  • Dragonsinn 3.0 (2026+): adding small, adaptive tools and interactive touches

Keeping up with tech in a way that adds to the site’s atmosphere has always been one of my favorite parts of maintaining Dragonsinn 💖

Technical Notes

For visitors who enjoy the behind‑the‑scenes side of things, the technical notes are on my WIP portfolio site.

They’re linked here for anyone who’s curious about the more hands-on side of the build.
