Etched in Stone (Photo behind the Poem)

Photo that inspired “Etched in Stone,” one of the poems in my Ruinkeeper first dragon poetry collection.

So I’ve been quietly adding the Ruinkeeper dragon poems onto the website.

At approximately 8,000 words, it isn’t the longest document I’ve handled. But it’s still a bunch to upload and format.

I’m going to try and publish the eBook on PayHip next month, and finalize the narration on YouTube by the end of the year. I’ve narrated a quarter of it and will be stitching together the audio clips into one long audio file, so that the export goes smoothly.

That being said, there’s a poem in Quadrant 3 (“III. Personal Mythos”) titled Etched in Stone.

Here’s the photo that inspired it!

I don’t think I took many videos at this spot, because it was just prior to my hiking window in Fall 2025 (where I did start to take more nature videos, some of which are slowly making their way onto my small YouTube channel @JessWriting).

I remember walking along the beach and a crow started cawing overhead. It was this exact moment where I was staring at a cool grey giant stone just sitting on the sandy shore, with the sea, blue sky, cloud wisps, slanted sunlight, and pine trees all lining up in a neat snapshot.

Speaking of dragons and stones, I did eventually take a few more photos of dragons on the rocks.

By the way, there’s also a Vintage Lego dragon poem in the aforementioned collection, in the same quadrant as the Etched in Stone piece.

I’ve added footnotes or additional thoughts at the bottom of each quadrant in an accordion or dropdown option, as I didn’t want them to be cluttering up the poetry text while reading.

I’m looking forward to wrapping up most of this first dragon poetry collection that spanned across some 20 plus years total, since there were many years since 1999 (when I wrote the first dragon poem) where I didn’t do much poetry writing.

I’ll probably put together another blog post once most of the material is up.

Note: I think I took some videos of one of my mini dragons at a small, rocky & slippery sea cave (Jasper Beach). I can’t remember if I took landscape format videos or vertical videos. Will add the YouTube link here if I’m able to find and upload it.
