Part of our dragon quotes blog post series.
I first came to know about Skyrim sometime in late 2012. It’s an action role-playing video game and the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series. The game was released globally in November 2011.
According to Jokerry.com, “Skyrim guards are the bravest and strongest solders which protect the Skyrim territory” with all they’ve got.
Alliances form amidst multiple claims to the throne. An ancient force is awakened during this time in the form of Dragons, who were hitherto only found within the passages of the Elder Scrolls.
The future of Skyrim is unknown as people wait for the Dragonborn to arrive: individuals who have a mortal body, but the blood and soul of a Dragon.
Skyrim Dragon Quotes
“Dragons have the inborn ability to learn and project their Voice. Dragons also are able to absorb the power of their slain brethren. A few mortals are born with similar abilities — whether a gift or a curse has been a matter of debate down through the centuries. What you have already learned in a few days took even the most gifted of us years to achieve. Some believe that Dragonborn are sent into the world by the gods, at times of great need.”
―Arngeir
“Dragons were never gone. They were just invisible and very, very quiet.”
—M’aiq the Liar, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
“Dragonborn, huh? Was it your ma or your pa that was the dragon?”
—Hadvar
“I wouldn’t if I were you. A wizard’s pockets can be more dangerous than a dragon’s mouth!”
—Neloth
“Dragons breathing fire in the sky. Vampires brazenly attacking people on the street. It’s the end of the world I tell you.”
“Gotta keep my eyes open. Damn dragons could swoop down at any time.”
“Fear not. Come dragon or giant, we’ll be ready.”
—Skyrim guard
“My cousins out fighting dragons, and what do I get? Guard Duty.”
—Skyrim guard
The following quotes were gathered by Tailin Sero of the Imperial Library:
“Foremost among all animals was the dragon. In the ancient nordic tongue it was drah-gkon. Occasionally the term dov-rha is used, but the language or derivation of that is not known. Using either name was forbidden to all except the dragon priests. Grand temples were built to honor the dragons and appease them. Many of them survive today as ancient ruins haunted by draugr and undead dragon priests.”
~ Torhal Bjorik, The Dragon War
“Dragons, being dragons, embraced their role as god-kings over men. After all, were they not fashioned in Akatosh’s own image? Were they not superior in every way to the hordes of small, soft creatures that worshipped them? For dragons, power equals truth.”
~ Torhal Bjorik, The Dragon War
“When the populace rebelled, the dragon priests retaliated. When the dragon priests could not collect the tribute or control the masses, the dragons’ response was swift and brutal. So it was the Dragon War began.
At first, men died by the thousands. The ancient texts reveal that a few dragons took the side of men. Why they did this is not known. The priests of the Nine Divines claim it was Akatosh himself that intervened. From these dragons men learned magics to use against dragons. The tide began to turn and dragons began to die too.
The war was long and bloody. The dragon priests were overthrown and dragons were slaughtered in large numbers. The surviving dragons scattered, choosing to live in remote places away from men. The dragon cult itself adapted and survived. They built the dragon mounds, entombing the remains of dragons that fell in the war. They believed that one day the dragons would rise again and reward the faithful.”
~ Torhal Bjorik, The Dragon War
