Dragons in Maine

Green and black dragons in Downeast Maine. Includes hiking and nature pics from Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge.

Maine winters sometimes remind me of my time in Singapore and Florida, where there’s no four seasons.

Previously, I used to stay indoors quite a bit as:

  • I was a semi-recluse (I still am, sometimes, and I have a personal planet in the 12th house)
  • I like to work remotely, if I have that option
  • A lot of my hobbies are indoors, like reading, sketching, collecting stamps, yoga

So I decided to take some of my dragons out to explore and sightsee a little bit of Downeast Maine, where I currently reside.

Green Dragons

I kept a small, ceramic green dragon from my childhood days.

It’s possibly quite fragile, so I didn’t take this one outside for now. I’ll probably feature it in the background of some indoor YouTube videos when I feel like it.

I have some rune stone sets at home.

The one in this second picture here was from a kambaba dark green rune set via Phoenix Orion gifts shop.

I have another green dragon figurine from long ago (that’s on one of the past WIP poetry blog headers), and another one on the way that I might bring along for any spring and summer wanderings.

As I’m more of a moonlight than sunlight person, I don’t know if I’ll be outdoors all that much during the peak summer days 🌞

Black Dragon (vintage Lego)

I forgot what day this was, but it was a great one to go out on a walk!

I was quite surprised at how different everything looks on a day-to-day basis in winter (blue vs. grey sky; water on the river vs. ice on the river), and it looks very different compared to the other seasons even though it’s the exact same spot.

📝 Note to Self: This is a picturesque area and I got some pics/videos of nice graffiti on the wall of a short tunnel portion. Will try to remember to share the video link here once I’ve uploaded it. Wait, that reminds me that I took some videos of these dragons over here too…

I also took this dragon out to Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge, which has nearly 30,000 acres of federally protected lands in northeastern coastal Maine.

I need to get touchscreen winter gloves for next year, because it is really cumbersome to get leather gloves on and off to take winter footage. The cold sets in very quickly in these subzero temps.

If you like cinematic nature shots, here’s a quick one I took at Moosehorn.

The timing was just right as the wind was blowing and some fresh snow fell from the pine trees right in my direction.

I always forget to take selfies when I’m on these winter walks (because it’s below freezing)…but here’s one with a residential backdrop.

P.S. Use a good lip balm with SPF for winter!
