Multiple Blogs: Thoughts and Plans

header_job_update

The theme of the last post back in June was dragons in fashion design. Here’s an update on what I’ve been doing recently, and plans on handling multiple blogs as a hobby.

Dragon Quote of the Month:

“A person must face the dragon of his or her appetites with another dragon, the life energy of the soul.”

Life Updates

Thanks to those of you who reached out to ask how I’ve been doing.

I was job searching for the past few months. It was tough in many ways and I learned a lot throughout the interview process.

I accepted an offer not too long ago and am looking forward to starting in November!

I’ll update my LinkedIn in a little bit once the orientation and onboarding tasks have been completed.

Why the Change?

Career is something that’s always on my mind. In the context of astrology, my ruling planet is Mars in the 10th house of Capricorn, which is a very career-oriented placement.

I’d been thinking of exploring more technical content writing (in the form of material like knowledge bases) and I’ll be getting a chance to do that in my new role. I was also seeking a change in terms of joining a bigger company where I could work with more teams in a cross-functional way.

I was sad to leave my previous employer, and appreciate all the things I learned over there as personal growth content was something we got to work with on a daily basis.

One of the best tips I learned was to write down goals daily. It really makes a difference in terms of focus and forward momentum πŸ™‚

What about The Multiple Blogs?

I have three blogs that went on hiatus in the later half of this year due to job-related planning:

  1. This Site (Dragonsinn.net)
  2. My Singapore socio-political blog using my pen name from secondary school days (jesscscott.wordpress.com — recently listed on Feedspot)
  3. My personal portfolio site (jesschua.com)

I’ve tried to monetize my blogs a few times, and after much trial and error, I realize that I’m happiest working on them when I keep them as hobbies. I enjoy professional writing (work-wise) in a different way. Keeping the blogs as hobbies would allow me to have more fun with them in terms of self-expression.

It is time-consuming to run multiple blogs.

My plan is to streamline and condense my approach as much as I can, as opposed to completely abandoning or deleting these sites.

I’m aiming for a summarized infographic/ezine approach with this website over the next year, since I’ve enjoyed putting together some dragon infographics for previous posts.

I might try a quarterly book review approach for Blog #2 (SG Blog), and post a monthly fun and quick review for Blog #3 (Personal Portfolio). I’ve caught up on certain books and films this year like Brave New WorldΒ andΒ 2001: Space Odyssey (update: linking to a review I posed in 2022), which were absolutely mind blowing.

Looking Back…

Now that I’ve had some time to think about my past personal and professional writing experiences, I would like to try a more “cordial” approach with some future reviews.

I was a lot more hot-headed and impulsive in my early to mid twenties, and more aggressive when expressing my opinions or personality (astrologically: Aries rising).

Those are my plans for now. I am going to try timeboxing my blogging tasks and see if it helps.

Dragonsinn.net Newsletter

I will probably post on this site in the new year as I would like to concentrate on my new job role for now.

I’ll be trying out Buttondown instead of MailerLite for the newsletter as keeping to a plain text newsletter would also help in terms of time management.

Take care in the meantime and let me know what you’ve been up to, or if you have any content to share here πŸ‘‹
